Commonly found in embedded systems and industrial computer-controlled applications, where humans cannot easily access or re-boot the equipment, Watchdog Timer is an electronic timer used to detect and recover from equipment malfunctions. At an event of a hardware fault or program error, the system or the application fails to restart the watchdog, the timer will elapse and generate a timeout signal, designed to activate and deploy corrective actions.
